My witterings about the Young Living European Convention

My witterings about the Young Living European Convention

So the last week has been pretty busy for me, after I returned from the Young Living European Convention at the weekend.
My mind has been blow & its taken till now to try & put into words some of what is in my head.
I already loved the oils & many of the other products so much, as they really do work & speak for themselves, BUT lets be honest, they are not the be all & end all of all life & will make your life perfect in every way, but they ARE a really good arsenal in your kit for helping to look after your families emotional, physical & (if it’s your thing) spiritual health.

Knowing that we have eliminated almost all harsh chemicals from our home & that I’m doing what I can to protect my children’s future health as best I can, is a good feeling. Not needing to reach for drugs for every little thing is a good feeling. We have hardly suffered from the usual day to day illnesses since using oils, & when they have showed signs of hitting we have used the oils to shorten & lessen the effects. That’s a really good feeling. Using oils to support difficult emotional times, is LITERALLY a good feeling!
You get the point 😉

What this weekend gave to me on top of all that, is finding out just how wonderful this company truly is.

I vaguely knew they had a charity foundation. I didn’t realise just how much it did in so many different countries, including the UK. You would think as a company they would talk about it more & use it as an additional selling point, but they don’t. They put the energy & time in to actually helping those in need & saving lives.
I sat with tears streaming down my face, listening to some of the stories & the genuine heartfelt love that Gary Young pours into this work.

Meeting so many other people whose lives had also been changed by this company for the better, and for so,so many of them in serious life changing financial ways too……….& no, it’s not an illegal pyramid scheme where only the ones on the top make money. ANYONE has the potential to make large amounts of money & overtake those above them…..plus all those above are willing you on & helping you out!
Meeting Mary Young & hearing her talk about Gary’s passion & dedication was so heart warming. She is just such a lovely, genuine woman & all those in the corporate office, seem to have been employed for similar traits. Everyone genuinely cares!

Basically I didn’t actually know my love for Young Living could grow any more, but it has HUGELY & I’m so proud to be working wth them to spread the health, wealth & happiness these oils & oil infused products can bring!

10% off European Premium Starter Kits- ONE DAY ONLY!!!!

On Monday 26th September from 00:00 to 23:59 (Central European Time), Young Living Europe will be offering a ONE DAY ONLY, 10% off Premium Starter Kits for new and existing members.

This is pretty huge, as they so rarely do any discounts, as the kits are already so heavily discounted.
To make the offer even juicer then I’m personally offering to refund the shipping too, so if you have been at all curious then now is a REALLY good time to jump in.
These oils have really truly changed our lives for the better. Even if I had not accidentally fallen into the business side of things, I would still be raving about these little bottles!! (honestly, I was adamant I was not doing another business, esp MLM, but the oils work, so I helped out friends & family when they had issues & then cheques started arriving on my doorstep!!)
I’ve done a quick (well as quick as I could make it…..you should have seen the previous one!) video, running through what you get in the starter kit & how to use it.

Anyway, I could go on & on about all the other ways I love this company & those little bottles of oil (I have not even mentioned the Seed to Seal Guarantee, which is HUGE & is what sets them apart as the world leaders providing top quality oils http://seedtoseal.com/ ) but I needed to let you know about the sale that started a few minuets ago (in the UK), as it’s such a bargain on a kit that can truly change your life for the better!!

DIY detoxifying deodorant

DIY detoxifying deodorant

I have been making our own deodorant for about 4 years now. It’s back from the days when our youngest boy was a baby & reacting to so, so many different foods, that we ended up on a strict Paleo diet for about 18 months. Many of the blogs with Paleo recipes also had natural healthcare recipes, & DIY deodorant is a popular one as it’s just so easy & works!

Over the years I have adjusted the basic coconut oil, baking soda & cornstarch recipe to one both Matt & I are happy with. I always found the basic recipe a little dry & crumbly (the the chunks of deodorant would ALWAYS fall in some embarrassing place, melt & I wouldn’t notice till I was out!) & I found the cornstarch a little scratchy.
Replacing the cornstarch with arrowroot helped make it a bit smoother, but then discovering that adding Bentonite clay not only made it velvety soft & easier to apply, but that it also added the benefits of making it a detoxifying mix too! It’s also odourless & non-staining, which are always a bonus for a deodorant.

Here is a little of what Wellness Mama says about Bentonite Clay:

Bentonite clay carries a strong negative charge which bonds to the positive charge in many toxins. When it comes in contact with a toxin, chemical or heavy metal, the clay will absorb the toxin and release it’s minerals for the body to use. Bentonite also helps get oxygen to cells as it pulls excess hydrogen and allows the cells to replace it with oxygen instead.

Since discovering Young Living oils, then we have added the Purification blend to the mix, as it is great at eating smells. I know some people use it neat as a deodorant, but I have sensitive skin & it stung me a little like that. Matt really likes the scent of Purification & in this recipe, it works great for him, despite being a big, hot, sweaty man thing!
Personally at certain times of my monthly cycle I can get a bit whiffy, no matter what I use or how many times I wash. It’s not every month & as my cycles are gently settling down with the several essential oils I use to help support my hormonal system, then it’s becoming less often…….but I was still searching for a magic ingredient to help at those times. A friend said that Patchouli oil, really helped her & she had struggled for years with smelly underarms. So I gave it a try in the last batch I made, & sure enough I have not had any issues so far. Plus I do love that musky Patchouli scent! It’s often described as the scent of the 60’s, & it wouldn’t be the first time I was called a hippy!
For more information about essential oils & a basic guide on how to use the oils in the Young Living Premium Starter Kit, check out several of my other posts here.

I get most of my healthcare ingredients, jars & bottles from The Soap Kitchen. They have loads of choices, quick shipping (or I collect when I’m in the area, as they are based just over the border in Bideford) & they have FAB customer service.

DIY all-natural detoxifying deodorant recipe

  • 5 tablespoons organic virgin coconut oil- a natural antibacterial
  • 3 tablespoons baking soda- neutralises pH & body odour
  • 3 tablespoons arrowroot or organic cornstarch- absorbs perspiration
  • 2 tablespoons bentonite clay- also helps absorb perspiration & pulls toxins from the skin.
  • Young Living Patchouli essential oil- I think I added about 15 drops, but add to your own scent preference, or any other oils you would like. My husband likes the Purification blend, for it’s amazing odour zapping skills!

I add all the ingredients to a bowl & mash with a fork. My coconut oil was really cold & solid, so I was struggling a bit & left the bowl out in the sun for a few minutes to soften it. In winter I have mashed it by hand to use my body temperature to help soften it too.
As I was making 2 different scented batches, then I added the essential oils once I had split the mix in half.
I split this between 4 small jars, between 60 & 120ml big.

To use we just scoop out a pea sized blob & rub under our arms………& go off on our happy ways smelling delightful all day!

More beautiful babies at Trelay

More beautiful babies at Trelay

Both our pregnant Dexter cows gave birth last week, with no issues.

First it was Moonshine on Tuesday, who had a very friendly & inquisitive little girl we have named Luna.

Although she is now a bit more nervous around us, in those first few days she was very chilled & curious…..hence this picture of her coming to sniff my camera!

Then on Friday, with no obvious signs of imminent birth, Holly gave birth to another little girl. Margot found them on her usual morning rounds & the baby was still all wet & lying on the floor. A few hours later when I went to get these pictures, then Holly still had the afterbirth dangling from her. It was quite fascinating to watch as she danced round & round, getting cross with it (as it had dropped lower, when she stood up to come to me). She circled several times, until she managed to get a front hoof on it & pulled it out of herself…..then promptly ate it.
This little girl is much more cautious, but has already gone missing on Saturday, when she escaped under an electric fence. It took 4 of us about an hour of searching to try & find her, with Holly bellowing loudly in the background! Luckily all was fine, but these calves could win any game of Hide & Seek, as they really do disappear into bushes & long grass.

Sunny Daze Tunisian Crochet blanket

Sunny Daze Tunisian Crochet blanket

Sunny Daze Tunisian Crochet blanket

I saw a picture of this Sunny Daze Tunisian blanket on Pinterest & as quite often happens with me, I could not get it out of my head & NEEDED to start it right away! Literally, we were packing to go away on one of our home education festivals & instead Matt found me sat on the sofa with yarn & hook in my hand & the downloaded pattern on my laptop. I have no memory of how this happened…..it’s like some kind of craft obsessive amnesia! I’m sure there are enough suffers in the world that can relate to me, that we could get it properly recognised.
‘Yeah, I suffer from CROA. Craft Related Obsessive Amnesia. It’s hard for my family members as they regularly lose me to it. I have no control, or memory when it kicks in, but on the plus side it usually ends with something pretty having been made!’

So I took it with us on holiday. I had not done Tunisia crochet before & at first found understanding the pattern quite tricky, as there were new terms to learn & not many pictures (I’m very much a visual learner!) but once I got the idea, it was a nice repetitive pattern to zone out too, or be able to do while chatting round a camp fire with friends at a festival.

As usual I take my projects almost everywhere with me. To home ed meets, community meetings, GP appointments…..everywhere! Matt laughed at me one day, as I was leaving to drop my niece off with my sister at a service station (as it’s half way between us in Cornwall & them in Cambridge) & grabbed my bag on the way out. Matt pointed out that I was not going to have time to crochet, so why was I taking it. I think my answer was ‘just incase!’
Sure enough our camper van broke down on the way home & I had to wait almost 3 hours for the breakdown company!

Always be prepared!

Always be prepared!

I actually finished this a couple of months back, but was not happy with the pictures I got, but have just not had time to attempt any better ones of it flat or hanging, so these will have to do, as I have also finished a rainbow lace star blanket & need to tell you all about that too!

I used Carron Simply Soft yarn in lemonade, mango, watermelon, grape, iris, blue mint & pistachio & as usual bought from Wool Warehouse. (I had to laugh, as I went to find the Wool Warehouse website, to check my account for what colours I had ordered & I only needed to type W into my search bar & it brought up Wool Warehouse as the first option. My Macbook knows me too well!!).
I really like this yarn, as it has a lovely sheen to it, is not splitty & being 100% acrylic, I don’t have to worry about the boys spilling something on it & it being hard to clean.

I was going to follow the pattern exactly, but it was much smaller than I was expecting (typical me, not to check the finished sizes in my excitement to start…..it’s that CROA striking again!), so I extended out the star pattern more. I was going to square it off, & did play with it quite a bit, but preferred it as a round blanket. I was also going to do the pretty overlaid stitch too, & had planned on doing it in black, to give a stained glass effect, but found the top slip stitching really boring & did not look too nice on the back side, so decided to leave it off.
It’s a nicely weighted, thick blanket due to the dense weave of the stitch, & Oliver (our youngest) has taken to stealing it, as he describes it as hugging him with love!
